Opera Lite: American Odyssey
A song recital celebrating 250 years of the American experience
Performed at the Davidson County Historical Museum, sponsored by The Edward C. Smith Civic Center.
Presented as a live radio broadcast, American Odyssey takes audiences on a journey through 250 years of American song, from the parlor and the revival to the protest march and the Broadway stage. Hosted at the historic Davidson County Courthouse in Lexington, NC, this recital traces the story of America through its music, connecting major moments in American history and legal tradition to the songs that defined them. Featuring works drawn from the many communities that make up the American story, performed by Reverend Kenneth Alexander Pettigrew, Logan Webber and Arianna Bohning, this is a chance to reflect on, appreciate and celebrate the full American experience.
A part of The Opera Lite series through Piedmont Opera.
What is Opera LITE?
Whether you're opera-curious or a lifelong fan, Opera LITE is designed to make opera approachable, engaging, and fun. This casual concert series features classically trained rising artists in an informal setting that combines beautiful singing with storytelling, historical context, artist conversations, and audience Q&A. Rather than a traditional staged opera, Opera LITE offers themed performances that invite audiences to experience extraordinary vocal artistry without the formality often associated with opera.
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Piedmont Opera for this special performance," said Caitlin Williams-Cole, curator of the Davidson County Historical Museum. "I attended my first Opera LITE concert earlier this year and was blown away. The performers are truly world-class. I was impressed by how interactive the experience was. They entertained, educated, and connected with the audience from beginning to end. Even as someone who knew very little about opera, I left a fan, and I think you will too."
Tickets: $15 Limited seating. Advance purchase recommended. Saturday, July 11, 2026 • 3:00 p.m. Davidson County Historical Museum 2 South Main Street Lexington, NC 27292
