In recognition of Juneteenth, the Battleship North Carolina will be illuminated in red, white, and blue, honoring the end of slavery in the United States and celebrating African American freedom, resilience, and culture.

Beginning at sunset (around 8:30 pm), the Battleship’s striking display will cast a glow across the Wilmington skyline—inviting residents and visitors to pause, reflect, and gather in recognition of this important date in American history. The illumination will be visible from downtown Wilmington’s Riverwalk, nearby parks, and across the Cape Fear River.

As North Carolina’s official World War II memorial, the Battleship serves as a place for remembrance, education, and connection. This special illumination offers an opportunity for the community to come together in reflection—acknowledging the past while looking ahead with purpose and understanding.
