Few people know about the "Big Tree" at Merchants Millpond, and even fewer have actually been to it. 

The "Big Tree", as many call it, is actually the second largest tree in the state of North Carolina, and we periodically lead paddles to it. Be warned: this is an all day adventure and not for the faint of heart. This paddle lasts from about 9AM-4PM but it is well worth it! Paddlers should bring appropriate clothing, plenty of water, a packed lunch, and sunscreen. A good hat is also recommended. Depending on water level of the millpond, there is always a chance paddlers will have to drag boats over beaver dams. There are a limited number of spots for this event and registration prior to the event date is required. 

Canoes are avaliable for rent at a cost of $25 per canoe. Canoes hold 2 people.
