DESCRIPTION:Don’t be blue – we have lots of indigo for you! This subtro
 pical plant was an incredibly important commodity in the Carolinas of the 
 18th century. We will be exploring the process used by skilled enslaved Af
 rican labor to extract this valuable dye from the indigo plants - and delv
 e into the science behind dye production. Visitors will have a chance to v
 iew and work an active fermentation vat\, and dyeing demonstrations will o
 ccur throughout the course of the program. T-shirts will also be available
  for purchase for visitors to try their hand at resist dyeing.\n\nThis is 
 a partnered program between Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Si
 te and the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. In 2026\, this eve
 nt will be held at the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport.\n\nThi
