In partnership with the Catawba Cultural Center, Kings Mountain Historical Museum is excited to present, "Choosing Sides: The Catawba Nation & the Fight for Independence." This exhibit explores the critical role of the Catawba Nation, also known as Yį Iswąre or “People of the River,” in the American Revolutionary War, particularly in the backcountry regions of Tryon and Lincoln Counties. As skilled warriors, guides, and allies of the Patriot cause, the Catawba people defended their homeland, protected settler communities, and contributed to pivotal battles. Despite the hardships of disease, displacement, and warfare, the Catawba demonstrated extraordinary resilience. Their story is one of courage, alliance, and survival, woven into the struggle for independence in the Southern Campaign of the Revolution.

The exhibit will run from June 30, 2026 until October 24, 2026. Admission is Free!
