On June 19th, 2026 at 10:00 AM, Dr. Latif Tarik, an Associate Professor of History at Elizabeth City State University, will speak about marronage and the use of the Dismal Swamp as a refuge for freedom seekers. Following the presentation, guests are encouraged to reflect on what they learned while strolling along the park’s boardwalk. A park staff member will lead a walk at 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM while sharing about the park’s unique natural environment.
