#InvasivePlantPurgeHARI“Invasive” plants are introduced, aggressively-growing plants that negatively impact local ecosystems. Join park staff at Haw River State Park’s Iron Ore Belt Access to help remove these leafy invaders!
Typical workdays start with paperwork for new volunteers (less than five minutes) followed by a short hike to the work area where volunteers will receive instruction on how to identify the target species of the day. The rest of the time will be used on employing hands-on, seasonally appropriate techniques to remove invasive plants from the landscape, helping to restore the area for native plants and wildlife.
Advance registration is required as supplies and space are limited. This opportunity is only open to volunteers ages 12 and up. Any volunteers under the age of 16 must be registered with and accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants, and close-toed shoes. Please bring work gloves and loppers or pruning shears if you have them, but if not they will be provided (and you don't need to let us know in advance either way). Meet at the parking lot of the Iron Ore Belt Access.
