Join the North Carolina Native Plant Society Foothills Chapter and Lake James State Park for the Lake James BioBlitz on September 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A BioBlitz is a community science event focused on discovering and documenting as many species as possible in a designated area. Participants will explore Lake James State Park while searching for and identifying plants, animals, fungi, insects, and other organisms that make the park their home.

The event will begin with a talk from a Lake James State Park Ranger about local ecology before participants head into the field to explore diverse habitats and search for species. Whether you are an experienced naturalist or simply curious about the natural world, all skill levels are welcome. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the biodiversity of Lake James State Park while contributing valuable observations to our collective understanding of the park's natural resources.

Participants will use the iNaturalist app to document their discoveries. Before the event, attendees should download iNaturalist, create an account, and join the Lake James State Park BioBlitz Project. Observations submitted through the project will contribute to the event's community science data.

All skill levels are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be provided.
