Join a Ranger at the Horse Trail Parking Lot for a guided exploration of some of Stone Mountain State Park's vernal pools. Vernal pools are seasonal fresh-water wetland areas that are crucial for many amphibians like wood frogs, red-spotted newts, and yellow-spotted salamanders to lay their eggs. These pools dry up in late spring and summer and are a hotspot for ecologocial activity in early spring! Please wear close-toed shoes that are able to get wet, as well as appropriate clothing to wear off-trail through potentially thick vegetation. Additional materials will be provided.
