DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, visit Stagville on February 7
for FREE guided tours exploring the history of slavery\, freedom\, and re

stories of slavery and freedom. As you visit the site for Black History M
onth\, we invite you to remember the enslaved and emancipated people who s
haped Stagville and North Carolina. \n\nOn Saturday\, February 7\, 2026\,
free guided tours will be offered to the public at:\n\n11 am1 pm3 pmGuided
tours last about 75-90 minutes\, and include outdoor walking and driving.
No reservations are required! Check in at the Stagville visitors center t
o join a scheduled tour. \n\nHistoric Stagville preserves a section of the
Bennehan and Cameron plantations\, one of the largest sites of plantation
slavery in antebellum North Carolina. Here\, enslaved people built a spra
wling plantation complex of farms\, workshops\, mansions\, and mills. Year
after year enslaved families suffered separation\, violence\, hard labor\
, and disease. Amid the horrors of slavery\, they resisted\, claiming some
measure of freedom through sabotage\, direct action\, cultural traditions
\, and freedom seeking. In 1864\, over 1\,000 people were enslaved by the
Cameron and Bennehan heirs. \n\nToday\, Historic Stagville is a 165-acre S
tate Historic Site that inspires new understanding about the history of sl
 avery through preservation\, interpretation\, research\, genealogy\, and d
 escendant engagement.
