Teaching the Foundations of American Democracy
About this Event
109 E. Jones St., Raleigh , NC 27601
Teaching the history of American democracy has always been a vital and fraught challenge. Just in time for America’s 250th birthday, North Carolina’s public universities have adopted a requirement for all students to complete a course in the Foundations of American Democracy. Featuring a panel of distinguished UNC historians Kathleen DuVal, W. Fitzhugh Brundage, and Joseph T. Glatthaar, and moderated by Deputy Secretary for Office of Archives and History, Dr. Darin Waters, join us for a discussion to learn more about how students are tackling the key principles and arguments around the American founding and the ongoing effort to form “a more perfect Union.” Foundational documents housed in the State Archives will also be on display.
