On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site will be providing a day long archaeology workshop that will fulfil many of the requirements for the Scouting America Archaeology Merit Badge ( https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/archaeology/ ). Through presentations and hands on activities, participants will learn about the science of archaeology, field methods, research questions, and career opportunities. The program will include a guided tour of the site to learn how archaeological practices revealed the history of the Mississippian village at Town Creek.
The workshop will begin at 9am and finish by 4pm. The day will include an hour-long lunch break and several breaks. The program is open all people aged 12 and up who are interested in science and history. Pre-registration is required and will cost $10 per participant. Please call 910-439-6802 or email megan.allen@dncr.nc.gov for more information and registration. Scouts interested in completing the Merit Badge should bring a Blue Card signed by their troop leader.
